The National Society of Tunisian Railways (SNCFT) is a non-administrative public institution responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of the Tunisian rail network.

It is also responsible for the development of this network through the extension of existing lines or the creation of new lines. This establishment, which is endowed with the civil personality and the financial autonomy, is placed under the tutelage of the Ministry of Transport.

Projects & Investments

NETWORK DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

At the national level

  1. Extension of the southern suburbs of Tunis towards Soliman. (8km).
  2. Extension of electrification to Nabeul and Sousse. (150 km)
  3. Doubling of the track on the section Moknine – Mahdia (25 km).
  4. Renewal and reinforcement of the armament of the tracks of the lines ensuring the service of the phosphates exploitations of the zone of Gafsa. (406km).

On the Maghreb plan

The high performance lines: The link of the main cities of the Maghreb namely: Casablanca, Algiers, Tunis and Tripoli A speed of 250 km / h for passenger trains and 120 km / h for freight trains.

High performance lines will extend in Tunisia over a total length of 840 km of track

The expected travel times:

Casablanca – Algiers (1200 km): 6 hours
Tunis – Algiers (1000 km): 5 hours
Tunis – Tripoli (800 km): 4 hours

A new workshop depot dedicated to the maintenance of the rolling stock of the future “RFR” fast rail network.
